Common Questions
Where should my child attend while the permit is being processed?

Permits are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must enroll in or remain at their school of residence until a permit is approved by the District. (This does not apply to students displaced due to overcrowding.) When arrangements have been made between districts/schools, the student may attend that school while awaiting approval.

Who approves a permit?

All permits require District approval by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services.

Can an approved permit be revoked?

Yes. A permit may be revoked at any time if its conditions are not followed. See the Terms & Conditions below.

Terms & Conditions
  • A permit is granted or denied according to the terms and conditions in board policy.
  • Once an inter-district permit is granted, the student is not required to reapply unless an agreement between the governing boards of the district of residence and the district of enrollment states otherwise.
  • Approval is subject to space availability and may not be at the requested site.
  • Students eligible for Special Education services may be asked to obtain an Inter/Intra-SELPA Agreement for Individuals with Exceptional Needs, in addition to the permit.
  • The parent/guardian is responsible for transportation to and from school.
A permit may be revoked by the district of enrollment if:
  • The student is excessively tardy or absent, or is dropped off excessively early or picked up excessively late.
  • The student fails to uphold appropriate behavior standards.
  • The student fails to make appropriate academic efforts.
  • False or misleading information was provided.
  • The classroom becomes overcrowded.
  • Other conditions make continuing inadvisable, such as a parent/guardian failing to cooperate with school or district officials.

It is the policy of the Garvey School District that each student attends their school of residence unless compelling circumstances require a change to another school.
