Garvey School District Partners with UCLA Math Project 2026

Garvey School District teachers and administrators participated in this summer’s UCLA Math Project! UCLA consultants shared the 2023 California Mathematics Framework and modeled effective, culturally responsive mathematics lessons designed to inspire and engage educators in approaching mathematics in innovative ways.

The goal of the UCLA Math Project is to strengthen mathematics teaching and learning by helping educators create meaningful opportunities for all students to engage with and thrive in mathematics.

Students benefit when they experience mathematics as a vibrant, interconnected, beautiful, relevant, and creative set of ideas. When educators encourage students to explore different ways of approaching questions and solving problems, they help students recognize that there is more than one pathway to understanding mathematics.

Through this work, more students can see themselves as capable mathematicians, recognize that they belong in the mathematics community, and develop excitement and confidence in their mathematical thinking.
